And it’s official!
September 20th was the day we’ve all be waiting for: the official Naming Date for camp boats! And here’s the best part– I MADE THE CUT!!! I haven’t stopped smiling all week!
Ten women’s sweep athletes were selected to row in the eight and the pair. We’re waiting until the Worlds Trials (next week at Lake Mercer) to finalize who will be the top pair to compete in Lake Karapiro, but a big congratulations to all! An added props to the W4- from 2009 Worlds (me, Amanda, Elle, and Esther)– all four of us have moved up to the eight!
It was definitely a tough selection process. Our entire group is extremely strong, talented, and motivated– there were no “gimme” seats in the boat, everyone had to earn their spot, even the coxswains!
Five other crews were named on Monday: W4x, M8+, M4x, M4-. and LM4-. All other events will be determined at Trials next week. Keep an eye out for the women’s straight four; from what I’ve witnessed of the intense seat-racing the past few days, the four athletes chosen for the W4- will be tough and fast racers. Their first race is on Thursday morning, you can check out their progress at www.row2k.com
We have a few weeks until we leave (official departure date is Oct. 21), so I’m excited to get into the eight and start prepping for races!
