With over a month until the naming date, it’s about time that Team USA began the big-boat selection process. And what’s the first part of big-boat selection? Another National Selection Regatta!
Unlike the previous two NSR’s, NSR #3 isn’t used for selecting the top American small boats (1x, 2x, 2-, etc). Instead, a top-4 performance at NSR #3 will earn you an official invite to the official Selection Camps for the eights, quads, and fours.
I’m racing with Mara Allen, a member of the 2009 World Champ 8+ and Cal ’08 grad. And she’s an AWESOME pair rower– she has a great boat feel, and she can cox a killer course (we haven’t hit a bridge yet! knock on wood)
We raced the time trial this morning: six boats to advance to Final, one boat eliminated. Mara and I established a good base rhythm, and laid down a solid piece. (Though my legs are STILL burning– after all the hours of low-cadence training, it was definitely a shock to the system to race it up above stroke rate 34!) See the results here.
Wish us luck for the Final on Saturday!
