Trees are budding, the canal is flooding, and Easter candy is on sale… everywhere around me are signs that our epic winter is coming to an end. With all these signs of life and growth and activity, it seems only appropriate that I, too, enter a new season: online-hood! Facebook updates and brief postcard messages can only get you so far. The time has come for me to embrace the exciting new adventure that is the World Wide Web.
So, on this drizzly, wet spring day, I welcome you to the inaugural post of Jamie’s Awesome McAwesome Rowing Blog! Now, a brief disclaimer: it’s been a thrilling ride with US Rowing, but the day-to-day life of a full-time athlete can be remarkably dull. Eat, row, eat, nap, eat, row, eat, sleep, repeat. But I promise you, I will do my best to keep it interesting! [My sister, however, she’s a different story. Romany is spending a year in Siberia, where “negative-forty-degrees” is common-place, and where babushkas down vodka like it’s afternoon tea. With her ridiculous adventures and amazing experiences, SHE is the one who should start a blog!]
I conclude my first-ever post with an open-call for a fun, witty blog title. It can’t stay “Jamie’s Blog Under Construction” forever! Any good ideas? Possibilities include:
- “Travels with Uncle Sam in Search of Rowing Superstardom” (a tribute to our favorite Steinbeck novel)
- “Up a Creek Without a Paddle”
- “Row Jamie Row”
- “The Oh-Why-Didn’t-I-Play-Basketball-I-Could-Be-Earning-Millions Blog”
- … and many that were just too silly to publish.
